More in Four

Support: More in Four students receive all the benefits of the Degree in Three program plus extra attention and outreach during their time in their undergraduate program. They will also receive access to a Canvas portal designed to support their progress and goals.

Structure: The More in Four badge, which is a critical part of the program, adds significant incentive for students to prepare themselves for graduate school applications. Students not enrolled in the More in Four program are much less likely to complete such tasks.

Exclusive Workshops: More in Four students have access to workshops tailored to graduate school readiness on topics such as preparing for law school, methods of funding graduate school, strategies for obtaining high quality letters of recommendation, and more. Many of these workshops are produced in coordination with other FSU departments like the Career Center and the Graduate Student Resource Center.

Unique Course Access: More in Four students will benefit from SLS 2150 “Transitioning Through College.” The sections of this class provided by Graduation Planning and Strategies are tailored exclusively to guide and prepare these students for future post-graduation success.

As a More in Four participant, students will be expected to complete their bachelor’s degree in three years or less. To support this timeline, participation in the Degree in Three program is required. Through dual participation, students will receive the benefits of Degree in Three and the specialized support specific to More in Four.

Once in the More in Four program, students are expected to do the following:

• Complete all Degree in Three requirements
• Work on completing More in Four badge tasks each semester
• Enroll in SLS 2150 “Transitioning Through College” prior to graduation.

The More in Four Badge provides key preparation for the graduate school experience and application process. It is a series of structured tasks that help students:

• clarify their academic and professional goals
• refine their resume and personal statement(s)
• gain necessary experience
• become financially literate
• discover graduate programs of interest, and
• reflect on their level of preparation

These tasks are not time intensive, and students can complete them at their convenience. However, students are expected to complete at least four badge tasks per year.

SLS 2150 is a 9-week course designed to help More in Four students to bridge the gap between their current academic life and their future professional goals. If space allows, Degree in Three students will be permitted to enroll.

Florida State University offers over 60 different pathway programs. Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Pathways programs allow for up to 12 graduate hours to be shared with, or double-counted, toward an undergraduate program. For Direct-Entry Pathways programs, students are admitted to a bachelor’s program with the understanding they are expected to complete both degrees.

Graduate Pathways  

Students in the More in Four program may pursue one of the many Graduate Certificate programs upon graduation from the bachelor’s degree.

Graduate Certificate Program  

Florida State University offers an extensive range of graduate and professional programs. Graduate education at FSU includes over 121 degree programs at the master’s level, 24 degree programs at the specialist level and 78 degree programs at the doctoral level.

Graduate School Programs  

Students can often apply their funding toward graduate school. Bright Futures currently pays for the first semester of graduate classes up to 15 credit hours at the undergraduate rate if students graduate in seven semesters or less and have Bright Future funding remaining. And unused portions of Florida Prepaid and certain FSU scholarships may often be applied toward graduate coursework.

Students in our programs are among the most active on campus. Many participate in research, study abroad, and internships during both their undergraduate and graduate years. Plus, FSU offers numerous student organizations specifically tailored to graduate students, ensuring students stay connected to the Seminole community.

While a bachelor's degree is a great start, a master's degree often makes individuals more competitive on job applications and can significantly increase one’s lifetime earning potential. It also allows one to network with industry professionals and dive deeper into one’s passions. Not at all! While some graduate programs require specific prerequisites, it is rarely required that students hold a bachelor’s degree in the same field. This is a great opportunity to pair a broad undergraduate foundation with a specialized master's degree.

Our data shows that students who graduate in three years or less are actually accepted into graduate programs at higher rates than their peers. Between the GPS office, the Graduate School, and the Career Center, students will have a dedicated support system helping students navigate every step of their application or job search.
